SAN DIEGO December 11 UPI)-as at two universities more can be added to the Mountain West Conference after Hawaii joined the League in 2012, a member of the Board of Directors MWC said.
Stephen Weber, President of the University of San Diego State stated that the Board would discuss expansion to 11 or 12 football programs for their next meeting in January.
"The first question would be: we would like to add more? Weber, said the San Diego Union-tribune. "If the question is therefore, it is one or two and beyond, a question is where these programs would be."
Union-tribune said Saturday that a key question will be whether if the MWC watching Texas as an area of potential expansion. Texas Christian University leaves the Conference, but in the Lone Star State television market is an attraction.
With TCU, the Mountain West loses founding members of the Utah and Brigham Young.
Hawaii Friday became the latest school Western Athletic Conference bolt for the MWC. Boise State joined the MWC next season and will be followed by Hawaii, Nevada and Fresno State in 2012.
Hawaii football program will play in the MWC while his other sports will participate in the Conference West Big. "This is a historic day of Athletics UH," Hawaii Athletic Director Jim Donovan said in a written statement. "As much as we enjoyed our relationship with the Western Athletic Conference 31 years, this hybrid arrangement allow to continue traditional rivalries that our fans have increased enjoyment, and keep a footprint in the West to United States, where many of our basic recruitment lies."
